Company Description

Roshan (Telecom Development Company Afghanistan Ltd) is Afghanistan’s leading provider of complete communications, serving with pride all 34 provinces with circa 6 million active customers. Since our starting point, we’ve been extensively committed to Afghan development, with over $700 million invested by us in country infrastructure, technology, and community.

Roshan is an Afghanistan success story. With about 900 direct employees — 99% Afghan citizens and 15% female — and about 45,000 indirect employment opportunities created, we at Roshan strive to shape the future of the country from within. We are sponsored by the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED), part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), that promotes sustainable private enterprise across the developing world.

Our network spans 387 districts, cities, and municipalities and reaches over 91% of Afghanistan’s population. We have a state-of-the-art Network Operations Center (NOC) and an ISO-certified Call Center that handles over 250,000 calls every week, keeping us in touch with all Afghans’ needs.

It’s not about tech with Roshan, but about truly making a difference. We became the first company in Afghanistan to gain B-Corp certification, referencing our ethical stewardship and responsible contribution. We had our departments as the first to be accredited with the international ISO 9001:2008 quality standards, and we were recognized by Fortune Magazine and Fast Company for advocacy of innovation and doing good.

Some of the highlights of our journey include giving free access to Wikipedia through the Wikipedia Zero Project and making sure that, as of June 2024, our services are available in at least one city in every province of Afghanistan.

At Roshan, we don’t measure success by how much we grow, but by how many lives we touch along the way. We’re here to assist in creating a more connected, stronger Afghanistan — and we’ve only just started.
