BACKGROUND
UNESCO’s mission is to foster international cooperation in education, science, culture, and communication to build peace, promote dialogue among cultures, and contribute to sustainable development. In Peru, the UNESCO Office continues to strengthen its role as a strategic partner of the State and civil society, promoting policies and programs that guarantee the right to inclusive, equitable, and quality education throughout life.
Within this framework, UNESCO, together with the Porticus Foundation, is implementing a program for secondary education in the Amazon, formulated as the Amazon Horizons Program (2025–2027). Its purpose is to offer adolescents in the Amazonas, Loreto, Madre de Dios, and Ucayali regions a comprehensive educational approach that promotes the development of sustainable socio-emotional, intercultural, environmental, and technical-productive skills, enabling every adolescent to complete basic education and possess the tools to exercise intercultural and environmental citizenship in sustainable connection with their territory.
In this context, the UNESCO Office in Peru requires the services of an Assistant who has immediate availability to work in the Public Information and Image Unit, attending to the communication needs of the Office, with emphasis on the communication actions of the Horizontes Amazonia program.
GOALS
Within the framework of the implementation of the activities and projects of the UNESCO Office in Peru, and specifically the Amazon Horizons Program (2025–2027), under the authority of the Head of the Office and the direct supervision of the Coordinator of the Education sector, as well as the Coordinator of the Public Information and Image Unit, the individual consultant shall:
1. Contribute to the planning of institutional communication for 2026, with an emphasis on communication activities for the Horizontes Amazonía program: event calendar, meetings, technical roundtables, social media campaigns, launch of new projects, and presentation of results. Contribute to the monthly updating of this plan.
2. Produce communication content:
• Support the collection of information (research, interviews) for writing opinion columns, press releases, web articles, and life stories, with an emphasis on the communication activities of the Education sector and the Horizontes Amazonía program.
• Support the creation and development of materials to promote UNESCO’s work in Peru and the Horizontes Amazonía program, including content for social media and the website (infographics, audiovisual stories, carousels).
• Support the Public Information Sector in the production of videos and the recording of audiovisual material, prioritizing the activities of the Education sector and the Horizontes Amazonía program.
• Provide photographic coverage for events or organized trips, including color retouching and image editing.
• Develop graphic materials for disseminating information about the office’s activities and the Horizontes Amazonía program (brochures, FAQs, toolkits).

3. Digital Platform Management:
• Update and manage the office’s social media and website (updating information, videos, photos, and graphics), prioritizing actions related to the Horizontes Amazonía program.
• Support the coordination of in-person and virtual events, including webinars and seminars.
4. Internal Coordination and File Maintenance:
• Collaborate with the Education team and other programs of the Office, UNESCO Headquarters, and partners in Peru on communication activities and the management of public information initiatives.
• Support the updating of the Office’s image and video archive (selection and archiving of photos and videos for the organization’s image bank), as well as the directory of media contacts and key counterparts for sending information, invitations, publications, etc.
• Carry out other activities that the Public Information Coordination deems necessary to achieve the objective of promoting UNESCO’s intervention models in Peru.
5. Media Monitoring: Support the issuance of alerts regarding current political and communication issues, media agenda, and crisis prevention. Measure the impact of actions on the media and how these affect UNESCO’s reputation.
6. Develop other activities that the Public Information unit deems necessary to fulfill the communication objectives of the UNESCO Office.

The document must include the results achieved, a bank of graphic and audiovisual materials, dissemination indicators, a communication impact analysis, and recommendations for the strategy of the next implementation period. 330 days after the contract is signed (10%)

courses . Any partial or complete products to be published and/or disseminated as official UNESCO material must be validated/approved by the Organization. These products must include a table of contents, as well as drafts and/or the final draft. UNESCO validation and approval will be carried out by the Project Specialist with prior authorization from the Office Director.
Payments are made upon presentation and approval of the products. The change consultant is obligated to report within the established deadlines and attach all required annexes and forms.
REQUIREMENTS
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Social Communication, Communication for Development or Journalism
• Studies in Image Management, Communication Plan and Media Management (desirable)
• Studies in Community Management, Digital Branding or others (desirable)
Work Experience
• Ten years of experience in the practice of their profession, in the public and/or private sector
• Four or more years of experience in writing news articles and newsletters. Experience in the field of education will be considered a plus.
Languages
• Spanish (native level)
• Intermediate English (reading, writing), desirable
TRIPS
The professional must be available to travel within and outside the country, according to the needs of the Program. Travel costs will be covered by the Project, in accordance with UNESCO’s internal regulations.
DURATION
The contract will have a duration of 11 months, subject to budget availability and performance evaluation. The contract does not include any expectation of renewal or conversion to another type of contract, nor does it include coverage for medical services.
