ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

These positions are to be filled in the area and field offices. Position holders report to the Administration Associate and primarily operate 4×4 vehicles, but may also be required to drive light vehicles, trucks, vans, or other types of ground transportation. The job may involve providing basic administrative assistance in the office or warehouse.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Provide transportation services for authorized personnel and/or merchandise in an efficient and safe manner.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide driving and transportation services for authorized personnel, and/or deliver and retrieve miscellaneous items/products, following the authorized itinerary and respecting United Nations safety rules and regulations to ensure a safe and efficient service.
  • Receiving official personnel and visitors at the local airport or other arrival points to facilitate smooth and safe arrival and entry to the authorized destination.
  • Ensure careful maintenance of vehicle records and daily reporting to your supervisor on the vehicle’s mechanical condition to ensure efficient vehicle use and fuel consumption, contributing to accurate accounting and cost efficiency.
  • Responsible for keeping the assigned vehicle and all associated equipment clean and in good condition, performing maintenance tasks in a timely manner, ensuring the vehicle is fully equipped with travel authorizations and necessary supplies, and ensuring any mechanical problems are reported to the supervisor to ensure safe and efficient service.
  • Follow established rules and regulations for field deliveries and/or in the event of an accident, and immediately report any apparent problems to the supervisor to request instructions and facilitate informed decision-making on how to proceed.
  • In addition to driving duties, perform basic office-related duties such as filing, photocopying, and maintaining warehouses as needed, including delivering or retrieving miscellaneous items, servicing mail, and paying phone and other office bills, in addition to providing administrative support to clients.

MINIMUM STANDARD ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS :

Formación:

Completion of secondary education. Official driver training and a valid license or certificate to drive the assigned vehicle, applying local rules and regulations.

Experience:

Minimum of two years of work experience as a driver, preferably for an international organization, embassy, ​​or the United Nations system, with a proven record of safe driving. Experience driving a variety of vehicle makes and models, including vans, trucks, and other types of motor vehicles. Defensive driving experience is a plus.

Knowledge and skills:

  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur etiquette and courtesy, local roads and waterways and their condition, and safety-related issues.
  • Knowledge of the vehicle ‘s load capacity and other parameters .
  • Knowledge of vehicle/boat driving rules and regulations, as applicable.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, floating portable safety devices, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Basic skills for providing assistance in an emergency, knowledge of basic first aid methods.
  • Knowledge and ability to use radio, email, telephone, and other devices.
  • Ability to assess the mechanical suitability of a vehicle and technical knowledge to perform minor repairs.
  • Ability to apply a customer-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy and tact.

Languages:

Fluency in spoken and written Spanish. Intermediate B2 level of English is desirable.
