THE CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:
The United Nations World Food Programme is the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize winner. We are the world’s largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies and using food aid to pave the way to peace, stability, and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters, and the impact of climate change.
The incumbent will ensure the efficient and safe transportation of authorized personnel and/or commodities within the Miragoane sub-office or any other WFP office in Haiti. He/she will drive official WFP vehicles in a safe and professional manner to transport personnel and goods from one location to another. He/she will ensure that the official WFP vehicle is in good mechanical condition and complies with established safety standards as well as road safety standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES/OBLIGATIONS (non-exhaustive list):
1. Provide transportation of authorized personnel, including translation of basic conversations from/to the local language, and/or delivery of various items/goods following the authorized route and UN security and safety rules and regulations to ensure safe and efficient services.
2. Welcome official personnel and visitors at the airport or other points of entry and provide basic assistance with police and customs formalities to facilitate smooth and safe entry and arrival to authorized destinations.
3. Responsible for the accurate maintenance of vehicle logs and daily reports to the supervisor on mechanical condition, to ensure efficient vehicle usage and fuel consumption promoting accurate accounting and profitability.
4. Responsible for the cleanliness and good condition of the assigned vehicle, including all equipment, timely maintenance, ensuring the vehicle is fully equipped with required travel permits and supplies, and that any mechanical problems are reported to the supervisor to ensure safe and efficient services.
5. Follow established rules and regulations for field deliveries and/or accidents, and immediately report any apparent problems to the supervisor, to request instructions and facilitate informed decisions on the way forward.
6. Apart from driving duties, perform basic office related tasks such as filing, photocopying and store maintenance when required, including delivery/collection of various items, postal service and payment of other office bills to provide administrative support to the various units.
7. Perform other duties as required.
SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS
1. Drive official WFP vehicles safely to transport authorized personnel. Ensure the safe transportation and delivery of parcels, mail, and any equipment in your care.
2. The incumbent will only travel to authorized destinations and will only take authorized passengers. There must be no deviation unless authorized by the immediate superior.
3. Always drive safely and responsibly, showing respect and care for other vehicles and property.
4. Maintain vehicle safety standards and obey traffic laws while driving.
5. Carry out daily vehicle inspections, assist in planning regular vehicle maintenance; report defects to the immediate superior; carry out and organize repairs.
6. Carry out regular checks and maintenance on oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.; complete the vehicle checklist daily; ensure that the vehicle is always in good mechanical condition.
7. While the vehicle is in the workshop, the driver must participate in repair and maintenance activities as required.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACTÂ :
1. The vehicle under your responsibility is always clean and maintained in good condition. Timely submission of vehicle performance reports.
2. The vehicle logbook is properly updated by recording all vehicle movements in an orderly manner when logging. Record fuel fill-ups and regular vehicle services.
3. The vehicle is always refueled on time and fuel consumption figures are maintained within the parameters established by the PAM.
4. Accidents and other incidents/damages are reported in time to the supervisor to obtain instructions and facilitate informed decisions on the course of action.
5. Effective and efficient management of the vehicle and any tools or equipment designated to the driver.
6. Maintain inventory of vehicle safety and recovery tools and accessories.
7. The vehicle and vehicle keys are kept at the official WFP premises overnight.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Education:Â High school diploma. Formal driver training with a valid driver’s license/certification to operate the assigned vehicle in accordance with local rules and regulations.
Experience : Two years of professional experience as a driver, preferably in an international organization, embassy or United Nations system agency, with a satisfactory performance evaluation or better. Experience driving various models of vehicles, including Land Cruisers, pickup trucks or hardtops. Experience driving armored vehicles is desirable.
Knowledge and skills:
- Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, protocol and courtesies, local roads/waterways and their conditions, and safety issues (proof of road safety training is desirable).
- Knowledge of vehicle load capacity and other parameters.
- Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, where applicable.
- Knowledge of safety standards and safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, portable safety devices, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Basic skills to assist in an emergency, knowledge of basic first aid methods.
- Knowledge and ability to use radio, email, telephone and other applications.
- Ability to assess the mechanical condition of vehicles and skills in minor vehicle repairs.
- Ability to demonstrate a customer-focused approach, a high sense of responsibility, courtesy and tact.
- Basic maintenance and repair skills, i.e. technical knowledge of vehicle components and maintenance.
Languages : Fluency (level B) in French.
