Job Description
The MEAL Intern will support the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning team in ensuring effective implementation of MEAL systems across ongoing projects. This opportunity is designed to provide practical, hands-on experience to recent graduates in the field of MEAL, enabling them to build technical skills and knowledge in humanitarian and development programming.
Duties & Responsibilities
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the internship, the intern is expected to:
• Understand the core principles of MEAL and how they apply to project management.
• Gain experience in data collection, entry, cleaning, and analysis techniques.
• Learn to prepare and present basic MEAL reports.
• Become familiar with accountability and community feedback mechanisms.
• Understand how learning and reflection sessions contribute to program quality improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the MEAL Officer and overall guidance of the MEAL Manager, the intern will:
• Assist in routine monitoring of project activities, including field visits where appropriate.
• Support in data collection using mobile tools (e.g., Kobo, ODK) and paper-based formats.
• Enter, clean, and organize quantitative and qualitative data.
• Participate in data analysis and contribute to report writing, summaries, and dashboards.
• Help track progress against project indicators and output/outcome targets.
• Assist in organizing and documenting learning and reflection sessions with project teams.
• Support the maintenance of project documentation, filing, and MEAL databases.
• Participate in accountability activities, including community feedback and response mechanisms (CFRM).
• Provide administrative and logistical support to the MEAL team as needed.
• Perform any other relevant duties assigned by the supervisor.
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Economics, Business Administration, Statistics, or a related field.
- Experience: No prior experience required. Fresh graduates are highly encouraged to apply.
- Language Proficiency:Â Fluent in Dari and Pashto; working knowledge of English is required.
Skills and Competencies:
- Basic knowledge of MEAL principles and tools.
- Good understanding of research or survey tools is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and accuracy.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced team environment.
- Demonstrated interest in humanitarian/development work.
