Company Description

Health Works, previously HealthNet TPO, has been at the forefront of the reconstruction and revitalization of war- and disaster-affected health and care systems for over 25 years. The communities in these challenging contexts are fighting against poverty, disease, and the long-term psychological effects of war. We believe that health is not just a goal but also a tool—a way of rebuilding societies, restoring trust, and bringing people together.

Our Mission

Our vision is to enable and support communities who have been shattered by disaster and war to take back their own control over their well-being and health. We believe that even the most oppressed sets of individuals carry the inner strength needed to rebuild a brighter future for themselves and for those surrounding them.

Our Work in Afghanistan

Health Works is one of Afghanistan’s largest Afghan NGOs, an active supporter of the health system and communities nationwide since 1994. We are focused on working in close collaboration with effective working relationships to local communities, the MoPH, and other NGOs as we deliver evidence-based interventions.

Major Areas of Operation

  • Strengthening Health Systems: We build healthcare infrastructure and access to ensure quality care to all.
  • Mental Health & Psychosocial Support: We integrate mental health services into the healthcare system to address war-induced trauma and emotional distress.
  • Protection & Resilience Building: We engage in community-level resilience building to enable them to recover from crises and conflict.
  • Mother & Child Healthcare: We implement Community Midwife Training and other maternal health interventions to prevent infant and maternal mortality.
  • Combating Diseases: We implement programs to control infectious diseases, including malaria treatment and prevention.
  • Health Financing & Public-Private Partnerships: We implement sustainable health financing programs and partner with private institutions to improve healthcare services.

A History Rooted in Impact

HealthNet TPO was founded in 1992 by Doctors Without Borders to bridge the gap between emergency aid and long-term health system development. Founded first as HealthNet International (HNI), the organization merged with the Transcultural Psychosocial Organisation (TPO) in 2005, combining healthcare system strengthening strengths with mental health & psychosocial care strengths. Today, we continue to innovate and bring sustainable healthcare solutions to life in Afghanistan and around the world.
