For every child, a future
Despite its vast natural resources, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is one of the poorest countries in the world. Factors such as extreme poverty, economic crisis, conflict, food insecurity, and epidemics negatively impact the social situation and well-being of Congolese people, particularly women and children.
The DRC is the second largest country in terms of land area and the third largest population in Africa, with 107 million inhabitants in 2021, nearly 54% of whom are children. Although the country has made significant progress in reducing infant mortality and improving children’s access to education, the majority of children are still deprived of their rights.
Beyond the challenges of long-term development, the humanitarian situation has deteriorated in recent years. Nearly 26.4 million people, including 15.4 million children, are currently in need of emergency humanitarian assistance across the country.
